Systematic position: Rugaleyrodes is a genus of insects belonging to the whitefly family (Aleyrodidae) within the order Hemiptera. These pests are known for their ability to thrive in warm climates and greenhouses, where they can reproduce continuously throughout the year if conditions remain stable.

Affected crops: These pests are primarily known for attacking citrus species and various ornamental woody plants. Depending on the geographical region and environmental conditions, they may also infest a range of greenhouse crops, causing localized damage that can escalate if left untreated.

Biology and lifecycle: The lifecycle of Rugaleyrodes includes the egg stage, four larval instars, and the adult stage. Eggs are typically laid on the undersides of leaves. Upon hatching, the first-instar larvae (crawlers) are mobile, but subsequent stages become sessile, feeding on the plant's phloem sap while remaining attached to the leaf surface.
