The white sugarcane borer (Scirpophaga nivella) is a significant moth pest within the order Lepidoptera and the family Crambidae. It is primarily known for causing economic damage to sugarcane crops, particularly in Asian agricultural regions, where it targets the vegetative parts of the plant.
The life cycle of the moth consists of eggs, larvae, pupae, and adults. Females deposit eggs in clusters on the leaves, covering them with specialized anal hairs for protection. Once the larvae emerge, they quickly seek entry points, boring into the young stalks of the sugarcane to feed on the internal soft tissues.
