Known for its tiny size and subterranean lifestyle, it is recognized as a significant pest in agricultural settings due to its kleptobiotic habits, where workers infiltrate the nests of larger ant species to steal food and larvae.
Biology and life cycle: The thief ant is highly adapted to life underground. Colonies are established by queens in deep soil layers, providing protection against environmental fluctuations. The workers are extremely small, allowing them to navigate through tight crevices in the earth. Their life cycle includes seasonal periods of foraging and reproductive swarming, which usually occurs during warm summer months.
