Description
The pear lace bug (Stephanitis nashi) is a significant pest belonging to the order Hemiptera and the family Tingidae. These insects are easily identified by their intricate, lace-like wing venation and flattened bodies, which allow them to thrive on the undersides of leaves.
While the primary host plant is the pear tree, Stephanitis nashi also attacks apple, quince, and various ornamental plants. It has become a widespread concern in orchards, often appearing in large colonies that quickly deplete the vitality of the host plant through constant sap feeding.
The lifecycle typically begins with adults overwintering in bark crevices or plant debris. Once the spring temperatures rise, they emerge to feed and deposit eggs into the leaf tissue.
