The cereal tarsonemid mite (lat. Tarsonemus spirifex) is a member of the order Acariformes and the family Tarsonemidae. It is a microscopic pest known for causing significant damage to various cereal crops by feeding on plant tissues in the early stages of development.

This mite primarily infests cereal crops such as oats, barley, wheat, and millet. It is particularly problematic in areas where wild grasses are abundant, as these serve as alternative hosts, allowing the pest to persist throughout the year and migrate to commercial fields.

The biology of Tarsonemus spirifex involves a life cycle consisting of egg, larval, and adult stages. Females lay eggs in sheltered parts of the plant, such as leaf sheaths.
