Teleonemia nigrina is a species of insect belonging to the family Tingidae, commonly known as lace bugs. These insects are distinguished by their intricate, reticulated (lace-like) wing patterns and specialized piercing-sucking mouthparts. As a phytophagous pest, it primarily targets specific host plants, causing physiological stress by draining nutrients directly from leaf tissues.

The host range of Teleonemia nigrina is often focused on specific ornamental or wild shrub species. By colonizing the undersides of leaves, these insects create micro-environments that favor their survival. They are particularly detrimental in settings where host plants are already weakened by environmental stresses, leading to a synergistic decline in plant health.

The life cycle involves an incomplete metamorphosis consisting of egg, nymphal instars, and adult stages. Females typically deposit their eggs into the leaf mesophyll or soft stem tissue, providing protection for the developing offspring. Nymphs remain sedentary during their early stages, feeding in groups, which leads to localized, concentrated damage on the foliage.

Damage caused by this pest is characterized by chlorotic spotting and stippling on the upper leaf surface, which eventually leads to leaf necrosis and senescence. In heavy infestations, the entire leaf surface may appear bleached, resulting in reduced photosynthetic capacity, premature leaf drop, and stunted growth of the plant.
