These insects are well-documented in the tropical ecosystems of South Asia, specifically in regions of India and Sri Lanka. They are notable for constructing prominent mound-like nests that facilitate the survival of their massive colonies in diverse climates.

As a plant pest, this species primarily targets woody tissues, making it a significant threat to forestry and specific agricultural sectors. Plants such as tea bushes, rubber trees, and various ornamental trees are particularly susceptible. The pests consume cellulose, which causes systemic weakness in living plants and leads to structural failure in timber or wooden infrastructure.

The biology of Termes redemanni revolves around a highly organized caste system consisting of workers, soldiers, and reproductives. Each caste plays a critical role in maintaining the colony's integrity and foraging efficiency. Their reproductive cycle is triggered by environmental cues, often coinciding with seasonal changes, which leads to the establishment of new satellite nests throughout their habitat.

Damage caused by these termites is often insidious. While they are scavengers of dead wood, they frequently attack healthy trees that have sustained previous physical injuries or root rot. Their foraging activity is masked by earthen tubes built on the bark of trees, allowing them to remain shielded from desiccation. This covert feeding habit means that by the time internal damage is detected, the tree may already be beyond recovery.

Chemical control involves the application of termiticides directly into the mounds or into established foraging tunnels. Preventive measures include the removal of deadwood from the field, which acts as a primary food source, and maintaining healthy tree vigor through proper irrigation and fertilization, making them less attractive to infestation.
