The shield bug (Tetyra bipunctata) is a member of the order Hemiptera and the family Scutelleridae. This insect is recognized as a specific pest that primarily affects cereal grains, thriving in environments where host plants are abundant and the climate supports its reproductive cycle.

This pest targets a range of cereal crops including wheat, barley, and rye. It is also known to frequent wild grasses, such as couch grass (Agropyron repens). These wild hosts act as a reservoir for the population, allowing the species to persist in agricultural landscapes throughout the year.
