Thosea vetusta is a notable species within the Limacodidae family, commonly known as cup moths or slug caterpillars. The host range of Thosea vetusta primarily includes tea plants (Camellia sinensis) and coffee shrubs. In regions with dense monoculture planting, this pest can cause significant outbreaks, leading to rapid defoliation of the crop if control measures are not implemented in a timely manner.

The life cycle of the moth consists of distinct stages: egg, larva, pupa, and adult. The larval stage is the most damaging phase.
