Trinervitermes is a genus of termites belonging to the order Isoptera and the family Termitidae. These social insects are primarily found in the savannahs and arid tropical regions of Africa. They maintain complex caste systems consisting of workers, soldiers, and reproductives, living within large, distinctive earthen mounds that serve as their colony nests.

This genus is considered a polyphagous pest that causes significant damage to agricultural crops in dry areas. While they typically feed on dead organic matter and dry grass, they often shift their diet to living plants when food sources are scarce. Affected crops frequently include millet, sorghum, maize, and the young shoots of various shrubs and trees.

The biology of these termites is characterized by nocturnal activity, as workers leave their mounds to forage for food sources. The life cycle involves incomplete metamorphosis, and reproductive cycles are often triggered by the onset of rainy seasons, facilitating the swarming of alates to establish new colonies in fertile areas.

Damage occurs primarily through the consumption of root systems and stems, which causes plants to wilt and die prematurely. By severing the vascular tissues of the plants, these insects disrupt nutrient transport, leading to stunted growth. Additionally, they often attack harvested crops left in bundles or piles in the fields, resulting in severe post-harvest losses.
