The primary hosts of this parasite include domestic and wild geese, as well as some other waterfowl species. The presence of these lice in a farm environment can lead to decreased livestock performance, affecting the production of feathers and down, which are valuable agricultural commodities in specialized farming.
The biology of the species involves a complete life cycle spent entirely on the host bird. Females deposit eggs on the barbs of feathers. The nymphs progress through several stages of development, feeding on skin debris and feather fragments.
