Systematic position: The Strawberry snail (Trochulus striolatus) belongs to the phylum Mollusca, class Gastropoda, and family Hygromiidae. This terrestrial air-breathing land snail is a common inhabitant of moist, shaded environments, thriving in habitats where organic debris is abundant and humidity remains high.

Target crops: This snail is a polyphagous pest, meaning it feeds on a diverse range of plant species. It is particularly problematic in vegetable gardens and horticultural settings, where it frequently attacks seedlings of lettuce, cabbage, strawberries, and various ornamental plants, such as hostas, which are highly attractive to these molluscs due to their soft leaves.

Biology and life cycle: The species is a hermaphrodite, which allows for efficient reproduction in stable, moist conditions. Life cycle stages involve egg-laying in damp soil crevices or beneath heavy foliage. Young snails begin feeding shortly after hatching and reach maturity relatively quickly under favorable temperature and humidity, while overwintering occurs in protected, dark areas of the soil or under leaf litter.
