Taxonomy: The cassava lace bug (Vatiga manihotae) is a member of the order Hemiptera and the family Tingidae. These insects are easily identified by the delicate, reticulated, lace-like appearance of their wings and pronotum, which distinguishes them from other common hemipteran pests found on root crops.
Host plants and distribution: This pest is primarily specialized on cassava (Manihot esculenta). It is a significant concern in various regions of South America, where it can reach high population densities, causing severe physiological stress to the crop and potentially leading to substantial economic losses in tuber production.
Biology and life cycle: The lifecycle of Vatiga manihotae consists of egg, five nymphal instars, and the adult stage.
