Chlorflurenol

Description

Chlorflurenol (chlorflurecol-methyl) is a synthetic chemical compound belonging to the morphactin group. It is specifically recognized in agricultural science as a plant growth regulator that modifies plant morphology and developmental patterns by interfering with natural hormonal signals.

The primary mechanism of action involves the inhibition of polar auxin transport within the plant tissues. By blocking the flow of these key growth hormones, chlorflurenol alters the growth of apical buds, root development, and leaf expansion, effectively causing systemic changes in the plant's architecture.

It is widely used in specialized horticulture for inducing parthenocarpy, particularly in cucumber production to enhance fruit set in the absence of pollination. Furthermore, its herbicidal properties allow it to be utilized for controlling certain broadleaf weeds by disrupting their apical dominance and severely stunting their growth.

Application requirements demand high precision in dosage and timing. Because the substance acts directly on growth processes, incorrect application rates or treatment at sensitive growth stages can lead to phytotoxicity, resulting in malformed produce or significant reductions in total crop yield.

Safety protocols for handling chlorflurenol are critical to prevent exposure. Users should utilize appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), including chemical-resistant gloves, eye protection, and masks, to prevent respiratory or dermal irritation. Always follow the manufacturer’s label for storage instructions and environmental safety regulations to minimize impact on local ecosystems.
