Deltamethrin

Description

Deltamethrin is a highly effective active ingredient belonging to the synthetic pyrethroid chemical class. It is widely used in agriculture as a broad-spectrum contact and stomach insecticide. The substance affects the nervous system of insects, triggering irreversible processes that lead to rapid pest mortality within hours of application.

The mechanism of action of deltamethrin involves disrupting the permeability of nerve cell membranes and blocking sodium channels. This causes a state of hyperexcitability in insects, leading to paralysis and eventual death. Due to its high lipophilicity, the substance quickly penetrates the pest cuticle, providing a rapid knockdown effect, which is crucial for protecting crops during periods of peak pest infestation.

The product is used on a vast range of agricultural crops, including cereals, legumes, vegetables, fruits, and vineyards. It effectively eliminates a wide spectrum of pests, such as:

  • Colorado potato beetle;
  • various species of cutworms and moths;
  • aphids and leafhoppers;
  • cereal leaf beetles and sunn pests;
  • flea beetles and weevils.

Application specifics require uniform coverage of the treated surface with the working solution. Deltamethrin is most effective at moderate air temperatures (typically between +10 and +25 degrees Celsius). It is important to note that the substance has low resistance to high temperatures and direct sunlight, so the optimal time for spraying is early morning or evening when insect activity is at its peak.

Safety precautions when handling deltamethrin include the mandatory use of personal protective equipment for skin, respiratory organs, and eyes. The substance is highly toxic to bees and aquatic organisms, therefore, spraying during the flowering period of crops or near water bodies is strictly prohibited. After application, it is essential to observe the pre-harvest intervals specified in the regulations for the specific product used.
