Acetamiprid

Description

Acetamiprid is a potent systemic insecticide belonging to the neonicotinoid chemical class. It is widely utilized in professional agriculture to control a diverse range of sap-sucking and leaf-feeding pests across various field crops, vegetables, and fruit orchards.

The mode of action for acetamiprid involves the disruption of the nicotinic acetylcholine receptors within the central nervous system of insects. By mimicking the neurotransmitter acetylcholine but not being broken down by acetylcholinesterase, it causes continuous nerve stimulation, resulting in paralysis and eventual death of the target pest.

Due to its systemic properties, acetamiprid is absorbed by plant foliage and translocated through the vascular system to new growth. This characteristic ensures that the plant is protected internally and externally, providing long-lasting control even after the initial application, as the active substance remains stable against environmental degradation.

This active substance is highly effective against several common agricultural pests, including:

  • Aphids;
  • Whiteflies;
  • Thrips;
  • Colorado potato beetle;
  • Various leaf miners and fruit moths.

Safe handling practices are crucial when using acetamiprid. While it has low toxicity to mammals, it is highly toxic to pollinators like honeybees. Consequently, applications must be strictly timed outside of bee foraging hours, and all local regulations concerning environmental protection and chemical application safety must be adhered to strictly.
