Dikegulac

Description

Dikegulac is a synthetic plant growth regulator belonging to the class of diketogulonic acid derivatives. It is primarily classified as a growth inhibitor that functions by disrupting the apical dominance in plants, which makes it a unique tool for structural modification of vegetation.

The mechanism of action involves the temporary suppression of apical meristem activity. By interfering with the transport of auxins—the hormones responsible for vertical growth—the substance halts the development of the terminal bud. Consequently, the plant redirects its metabolic energy toward the lateral buds, resulting in increased branching and a bushier structure.

This compound is widely utilized in the horticultural industry for "chemical pruning" or pinching. It is particularly effective for managing ornamental shrubs, hedges, and specific fruit tree nurseries where dense branching is highly valued. In addition to growth regulation, it exhibits specific herbicidal properties against certain parasitic weeds, effectively hindering their development.

Application requires strict adherence to dosage guidelines to avoid phytotoxicity. Over-application can lead to severe side effects such as chlorosis, stunted growth, or permanent damage to the plant's architecture. It is recommended to perform treatments during the active growth phase, ensuring the plant is in a healthy physiological state to respond correctly to the chemical stimulus.

Safety precautions must be observed rigorously when handling this chemical. Operators should wear appropriate personal protective equipment, including gloves and respirators, to prevent inhalation or skin absorption. Due to its potent biological activity, equipment must be thoroughly flushed after use to prevent cross-contamination with other sensitive plant species during subsequent spraying operations.
