Active ingredient

Flupyradifurone

Description

Flupyradifurone is an active ingredient belonging to the butenolide chemical class, widely recognized as a highly effective systemic insecticide. It was developed to address the growing challenges of controlling various sucking insect pests that threaten agricultural productivity globally.

The mechanism of action involves targeting the nicotinic acetylcholine receptors (nAChR) in the central nervous system of insects. Because of its unique structural design, flupyradifurone effectively manages pest populations that have developed resistance to other insecticide classes, such as conventional neonicotinoids.

This compound exhibits strong systemic properties, allowing it to move rapidly within plant tissues, providing long-lasting protection for new growth. It is extensively used on potatoes, vegetables, fruits, and ornamental crops to control aphids, whiteflies, leafhoppers, and various species of scales.

Application techniques are versatile, ranging from foliar sprays to soil drenching and seed treatments. A major agronomic advantage is its "knock-down" effect, which forces pests to stop feeding almost immediately, thereby preventing the transmission of viral pathogens from insect vectors to healthy plants.

  • Excellent control of resistant insect populations.
  • Rapid cessation of feeding activity.
  • Strong systemic translocation in plants.
  • Compatibility with Integrated Pest Management (IPM) programs.

Safety measures are critical when handling flupyradifurone; operators must wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE). It is essential to strictly follow label instructions regarding re-entry intervals and safety distances from hives, as precautionary measures are necessary to protect pollinator health during applications.
