Methacrifos

Methacrifos is an organophosphate insecticide known for its potent contact and fumigant action. It is specifically designed to control a variety of insect pests that threaten the integrity of stored agricultural commodities, particularly cereal grains and oilseeds.

The biochemical mode of action involves the inhibition of the acetylcholinesterase enzyme within the insect's nervous system. By disrupting the normal transmission of nerve impulses, the chemical triggers tremors and paralysis, which subsequently leads to the death of the target pest.

It is primarily utilized in grain elevators, silos, and warehouses to eliminate infestations of beetles, weevils, moths, and grain mites. The chemical is particularly valued for its ability to penetrate dense grain masses, ensuring thorough control even in difficult-to-reach areas of the storage facility.

Effective application depends on maintaining airtight conditions to maximize the fumigant effect. Users must carefully follow label instructions regarding dosage rates based on the specific pest density, the type of grain, and environmental conditions such as moisture content and temperature.
