Description
Penthiopyrad belongs to the pyrazole-carboxamide chemical class. It is a highly effective active ingredient used in modern fungicides to protect agricultural crops against a wide spectrum of fungal diseases. Its unique chemical structure ensures high biological activity even at low application rates.
The mechanism of action of this substance involves the inhibition of succinate dehydrogenase (SDHI) in the second complex of the fungal mitochondrial respiratory chain. By blocking this enzyme, penthiopyrad halts the pathogen's cellular respiration process, leading to a disruption in energy metabolism, cessation of mycelial growth, and fungal spore death.
The product is effective against pathogens from the ascomycete, basidiomycete, and deuteromycete classes. Primary application areas include the protection of vegetable, fruit, berry, grain crops, and vineyards. It demonstrates excellent results in controlling diseases such as:
- powdery mildew;
- gray mold (Botrytis);
- rust fungi;
- various leaf spot diseases;
- sclerotinia rot.
The application specifics of penthiopyrad lie in its ability to penetrate plant tissues rapidly, providing both preventative and curative protection. The substance possesses translaminar properties, allowing it to redistribute within the leaf and protect areas that may not have been directly covered by the spray solution.
Safety precautions when working with the fungicide include using personal protective equipment for the skin, respiratory tract, and eyes. It is essential to strictly follow application regulations, consider weather conditions, and adhere to pre-harvest intervals to ensure that pesticide residues in the final produce remain within established limits.
