Rescalure

Description

Rescalure is a synthetic analogue of the sex pheromone emitted by female California red scale (Aonidiella aurantii). It is classified as a biochemical pesticide and serves as a vital component in integrated pest management (IPM) strategies for fruit orchards, aiming to control scale populations through environmentally friendly interventions.

The mode of action of Rescalure is strictly based on the mating disruption technique. By releasing a consistent concentration of the pheromone into the orchard environment, the chemical interferes with the chemical communication between male and female insects. Consequently, males are unable to locate females, which drastically inhibits successful mating and suppresses the emergence of the next generation of larvae.

This substance is widely utilized in citrus and deciduous fruit production where the California red scale poses a significant economic threat. By opting for pheromone-based control, growers can significantly reduce their reliance on broad-spectrum organophosphate or carbamate insecticides, which helps preserve populations of natural predators and parasitoids.

Application requires the strategic deployment of pheromone dispensers within the orchard canopy. The timing of installation is critical and must coincide with the initial flight activity of the male scale. Regular monitoring using conventional sticky traps is recommended to ensure that the density of dispensers provides full coverage throughout the critical developmental windows of the pest.

  • Targeted pest control with minimal environmental impact.
  • Compatibility with beneficial insect programs.
  • No residual toxins in the harvest, ensuring safety for consumers.
  • Resistance-management tool as it acts through behavioral manipulation.

Regarding safety measures, handling Rescalure dispensers requires basic protective gear, such as gloves, to prevent direct skin contact with the concentrated chemical. It is essential to store the product in its original, sealed packaging within a cool, dry environment to maintain the chemical integrity and release rates of the active ingredient until the time of use.
