Active ingredient

Silthiofam

Description

Silthiofam is a highly effective active ingredient belonging to the silylacetylene chemical class. It is used in agriculture exclusively as a fungicide designed for seed treatment. The primary focus of the preparation is the control of complex diseases transmitted through the soil and seed material, offering a specialized solution for seedling health.

The mechanism of action for silthiofam involves the inhibition of the enzyme succinate dehydrogenase in the mitochondrial electron transport chain of the fungus. This action disrupts the pathogen's energy metabolism, halts mycelial growth, and leads to its eventual death. As a systemic substance, it provides essential early-stage protection for emerging seedlings.

The preparation is primarily applied to cereal crops, such as wheat and barley. Its main target is the control of the take-all root rot pathogen, Gaeumannomyces graminis. Due to its targeted specificity, silthiofam allows farmers to effectively manage difficult soil-borne infections in both winter and spring crop stands.

  • Effective against soil-borne pathogens.
  • Systemic protection for early vegetative stages.
  • Targeted action for cereal root health.
  • Requires precise seed dressing equipment.

When using silthiofam, it is critical to adhere to the dosage rates recommended by the manufacturer for the specific crop variety. Application is carried out by treating seeds before planting, either in industrial facilities or in the field, ensuring uniform coverage of the seed surface to maximize biological efficiency.

Regarding safety, silthiofam is classified as a moderately hazardous compound. When handling the product, it is necessary to use personal protective equipment for the skin and respiratory system. While the substance is stable in the soil, providing a prolonged protective effect, strict compliance with safety regulations is required to prevent contamination of water sources and the surrounding environment.
