Thiacloprid
Description
Thiacloprid is an active ingredient classified as a neonicotinoid insecticide. It is widely used in modern crop protection due to its strong systemic and contact-stomach action against a broad range of insect pests that attack fruit trees, vegetables, and field crops.
The mode of action of thiacloprid involves the disruption of the nicotinic acetylcholine receptors in the insect central nervous system. This causes persistent neural stimulation, leading to uncontrollable tremors and subsequent paralysis, ultimately resulting in the death of the pest within a relatively short period.
Due to its systemic properties, the compound is rapidly absorbed by the plant tissues and translocated throughout the treated parts. This allows the insecticide to provide protection not only to the surfaces sprayed directly but also to new growth emerging after the application, ensuring long-lasting defense against damage.
Thiacloprid is effective against various categories of harmful insects, making it a versatile tool for integrated pest management programs. Its primary targets include:
- Colorado potato beetle;
- pollen beetles (Meligethes);
- aphids and whiteflies;
- codling moth;
- various leaf-mining insects.
Operators must adhere to safety regulations when applying thiacloprid to protect non-target species, particularly pollinators like honeybees. Avoid spraying during the flowering phase and always follow the label instructions regarding dosage, water volume, and the use of personal protective equipment to ensure applicator safety.
