Active ingredient

Trichloronat

Description

Trichloronat is a chemical active ingredient belonging to the organophosphate class of pesticides. Within professional agriculture, it is utilized as a broad-spectrum insecticide designed primarily for soil application. Its effectiveness in controlling subterranean pests makes it a specialized solution for protecting the root systems of various field crops and vegetables.

The mechanism of action for trichloronat involves the inhibition of acetylcholinesterase, a critical enzyme responsible for nerve impulse transmission in insects. When the enzyme is inhibited, acetylcholine accumulates in the synapse, leading to continuous stimulation of the nervous system. This results in paralysis and eventual death of the target pest through contact or ingestion.

This active ingredient is specifically formulated to combat soil-dwelling pests that often remain unreachable by conventional foliar sprays. The main targets for trichloronat include:

  • white grubs (larvae of scarab beetles);
  • wireworms (larvae of click beetles);
  • mole crickets;
  • cutworms;
  • root-feeding fly larvae.

When applying trichloronat, farmers must ensure precise soil integration to achieve the desired efficacy. The substance performs best when incorporated into the upper soil layers at the time of planting or seeding. Moisture management is essential; proper soil moisture ensures that the active ingredient is evenly distributed around the root zone, creating an effective protective barrier against pest feeding.

Safety remains a paramount concern when handling trichloronat due to its toxicity to non-target organisms and humans. Operators must utilize appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), including chemical-resistant gloves, coveralls, and respiratory protection. Strict adherence to application intervals and pre-harvest safety periods is mandatory to ensure food safety and prevent contamination of agricultural produce.
