Samarkand corydalis (Corydalis maracandica) is a perennial herbaceous tuberous ephemeral belonging to the Poppy family (Papaveraceae). This crop possesses a very short life cycle, perfectly adapted to the spring climate of Central Asia, allowing it to utilize peak moisture levels for rapid blooming and vegetative development before the dry season begins.
The native range of this species is confined to the foothills and mountainous areas of Central Asia, particularly in the vicinity of Samarkand. As a regional endemic, the plant is a significant object for botanical research, representing the unique adaptation strategies of ephemeral flora to high-altitude and continental environments.
Botanically, the plant is characterized by a rounded tuber from which bluish-green leaves and elegant flower stalks emerge in early spring.
