Crystalwort (Riccia crystallina) is a liverwort species belonging to the Ricciaceae family. This bryophyte is characterized by its thalloid structure, which forms small, star-shaped rosettes, making it a distinct organism in both botanical studies and specialized cultivation setups.

The plant originates from diverse wetland environments and is found globally in regions with seasonal moisture. Its natural habitat includes the margins of ephemeral pools and damp, exposed soil where it can rapidly form mats during moist periods, demonstrating an excellent adaptation to temporary environments.

Regarding botanical features, the thallus of Riccia crystallina is flat, dichotomously branched, and typically light green in color. It lacks true roots, relying on unicellular rhizoids for surface attachment and moisture absorption from the substrate, which is essential for its survival.
