Citrus chlorotic dwarf is a viral disease caused by the Citrus chlorotic dwarf virus (CCDV), which belongs to the Betaflexiviridae family. As a systemic plant pathogen, it impacts the vascular system of the host, leading to disrupted nutrient transport and overall physiological decline. The disease is recognized for its significant impact on tree vigor and fruit production.

The primary hosts of this virus are members of the Citrus genus, including lemons, oranges, and grapefruit. Commercial citrus orchards and home gardens alike are susceptible. The disease is often introduced into new areas through infected nursery stock, making the selection of healthy plant material the first line of defense against the pathogen.

Symptoms of the infection typically include characteristic chlorotic patterns or mosaic mottling on leaves. Infected trees exhibit stunted growth, reduced internode length, and a distinct dwarfed appearance. Fruit development is also adversely affected, resulting in smaller, malformed, or poor-quality yields that are commercially unmarketable.
