Corm dry rot is a fungal disease caused by the pathogen Junghuhnia vincta, specifically targeting the underground corm of the plant. This disease is a significant concern for banana growers, as it compromises the foundation of the plant's health and directly interferes with its ability to intake water and essential nutrients from the soil.

The primary host for this pathogen is the banana plant. The fungus typically gains entry through wounds caused by insect damage, mechanical injuries during cultivation, or natural cracks in the corm. Once inside, it colonizes the vascular and structural tissues, initiating a degradation process that leaves the corm brittle and dry.
