The Microtheliopsidaceae family represents a specific group of ascomycetous fungi that act as parasitic or epiphytic agents on various plant species. These fungi typically infect a variety of ornamental trees and woody plants, occasionally affecting agricultural crops under stress. The pathogen prefers to settle on the epidermis, gradually absorbing nutrients and disrupting the plant's normal metabolic processes, including gas exchange and light absorption, which leads to reduced vitality of the infected organism.

The clinical symptoms of this infection are characterized by the appearance of dense, dark-pigmented spotting on leaves and stems.
