This pathogen has a wide host range, affecting fruits such as tomatoes and citrus, as well as various root vegetables and grains. The fungus primarily targets products that have sustained mechanical damage, such as bruises or cuts, which serve as entry points for the fungal spores to establish an infection and begin tissue decomposition.
Symptoms of the infection typically include the appearance of soft, water-soaked lesions that expand rapidly. As the disease progresses, the affected areas become covered with a powdery sporulation layer.
