Description
M 41 Alex almond – one of the four Ukrainian almond varieties bred in Vasyl Babansky's farm and officially recognized. A medium-height tree with a round crown, wide branches, and dense foliage. The fruit reaches 4.5 cm in diameter, weighs 7–9 g, making it a large-fruited variety.
The fruiting period begins in the fourth year after planting; flowering occurs gradually and lasts about three weeks, ensuring good pollination even with erratic weather. By mid-September, the fruits ripen, and the kernel yield is approximately 45 %. The yield reaches 2.3–2.5 t/ha.
The variety is distinguished by high resistance to most almond diseases and good winter hardiness: it withstands low temperatures down to –30 °C in a dormant state but requires protection from frost during flowering. Successful cultivation requires a care system, including crown structure formation, preventive treatments (copper-containing preparations), and sanitary pruning after the start of fruiting. M 41 Alex is suitable for planting in regions with a moderate climate where almonds have already been successfully cultivated and represents a promising agribusiness option due to high yield and stable profits.
