Description
NIKITSKY 62 is a medium-late matting almond variety developed at the Nikita Botanical Garden. The tree is of medium height (3–5 m), forms a wide fan-shaped crown, and can be grown as either a tree or a shrub. Bearing begins in the third year after planting, with harvest ripening in the first days of September.
The fruits of this variety are large – 30–40 mm long, with an average weight of about 4 grams, ensuring a kernel yield of up to 35% of the total mass. The shell is soft and slightly rough, containing a dark brown kernel with dense white flesh. The almond has an oily and sweet taste, and the nuts retain their properties throughout the storage period.
NIKITSKY 62 is distinguished by high productivity: up to 20 kg of nuts can be collected from one tree per season. The culture is self-incompatible, but the 'Dessertny' and 'Foros' varieties are recommended for optimal pollination. The variety is resistant to fungal diseases, possesses good frost hardiness (surviving short-term cooling down to –20 °C), and grows well in southern regions where the climate is more favorable for its development.
