Description
Nikitsky 2240 is a promising almond variety of medium height, ranging from 3 to 5 meters, with a wide crown and compact dwarf development. The tree quickly enters the fruiting stage: the first fruits appear already in the second or third year after planting. The variety is distinguished by high yield – up to 15 kg of nuts from an adult tree, as well as resistance to frost down to ‑35 °C and drought.
Fruits of Nikitsky 2240 have a length of 3–4 cm and a mass of about 4 grams. The kernel makes up approximately 50% of the nut weight, has a light cream color, and a sweet taste with a slight bitterness. The shell separates easily, which facilitates processing and increases convenience for use in the food industry.
The variety requires pollination by the Antik and Nikitsky (or Yalinsky, Stepny) varieties, but with proper placement in a sunny location at a distance of 4 × 4 m, it demonstrates excellent resistance to diseases, including marsenziosis and chlorosis. Fruiting begins in early September, and ripening ends in the second decade of the month. Due to the high protein and fat components of the nuts, Nikitsky 2240 is a valuable addition to the diet for both consumers and food producers.
