Description
Astra of the Barbara variety is a striking annual plant with a pyramidal or columnar bush shape, reaching a height of 60 to 70 cm. The bushes form more than 15 sturdy stems with large flowers 12-14 cm in diameter, which feature a rich purplish-purple hue and exquisite coloring. The flowers have a spherical or semi-spherical shape, consisting of wide ray florets with a glossy sheen, giving them special decorative appeal.
This variety is distinguished by high resistance to rain and cold, allowing it to be cultivated both in open ground and in greenhouses. The Barbara Astra can be sown in late autumn or early spring, and for earlier flowering, it is recommended to grow it from seedlings. The plant tolerates transplanting well, even at the budding stage, and responds positively to fertilization, especially at the two-true-leaf stage and during bud formation.
Flowering begins at the end of July and continues until the onset of frost, making Barbara an excellent choice for decorating flower beds, borders, and creating bouquet compositions. The cut flowers maintain freshness and decorative quality for up to two weeks, expanding their use possibilities in floristics. It prefers sunny locations, ensuring abundant and prolonged flowering from July to October.
