Description
Peony-flowered aster of the 'Schoolgirl' variety is a decorative plant with a columnar bush reaching 95 to 100 cm in height. The inflorescences have a semi-spherical or spherical shape with a diameter of about 12 cm and consist of wide ray florets of purple color with a sheen, directed upwards and bent inward, fitting tightly together. Such structure gives the flowers an impressive and neat appearance, making them an excellent decoration for garden compositions.
This plant is widely used to create mixed flowerbeds, planting in groups or rows on rabatts, and is also an excellent material for cutting. Aster prefers sunny places but can also grow in partial shade. Best results are achieved when growing on light, fertile soils. It is important to note that organic fertilizers should not be applied in the year of planting to avoid negative effects on plant development.
Sowing seeds is carried out from mid-February to April at a depth of about 0.5 cm. At a soil temperature of about +20 °C, seedlings appear within 7-14 days. After seedlings appear, thinning is performed after 3-4 weeks, and cultivation continues at a temperature of +12-15 °C. Seedlings are transplanted to open ground in the second half of May, maintaining a distance between plants of 25-30 cm. This approach ensures healthy development and abundant flowering of the aster variety 'Schoolgirl'.
