Description
LG Belcanto barley — a high-yielding variety developed by Limagrain Europe (France), which demonstrates excellent adaptability to various climatic conditions, including central-western regions of Ukraine and Kazakhstan. This medium-maturing, two-row barley is intended for brewing and feed purposes, due to its high technological qualities. The variety is characterized by very high grain size and extractability of about 83%, while the protein content in the grain is low — from 10 to 11.5% — which positively affects beer quality.
LG Belcanto exhibits high resistance to major barley diseases, such as powdery mildew, rhiophytophthora, helminthosporium, dwarf rust, and ramulariosis. Additionally, the variety is resistant to lodging, which helps preserve yield and improve its quality. The recommended seed sowing depth is 2-3 cm, and the sowing rate varies depending on planting time: from 3.2 to 3.7 million seeds per hectare at optimal planting dates and up to 4.5-5.0 million seeds per hectare at later planting dates.
To achieve maximum yield and grain quality, it is important to observe optimal planting dates, apply fertilizers correctly, and maintain optimal plant stand density. LG Belcanto has already shown high yields in various regions, including Kursk Oblast in 2022. Thanks to its characteristics and disease resistance, this variety is a reliable choice for farmers focused on producing high-quality raw materials for brewing and feed purposes.
