Description
Cherry variety 'Izyumna' is a fast-growing, vigorous tree with a spherical, dense crown and large, elongated-ovate leaves. This variety was developed at the Institute of Irrigated Horticulture of UAAN and registered in the State Register in 1990 for the North Caucasus region. The tree is characterized by high cold resistance and resistance to moniliosis and coccomycosis, significantly reducing the risk of disease and simplifying care. However, when grafted onto cherry rootstock, it may be susceptible to bacterial canker. The crown and branches of the tree are strong, contributing to its good survival rate and growth on various soil types. The fruits of 'Izyumna' cherry are large, weighing 6–9 grams, heart-shaped with a fine ventral seam and a small depression at the apex. Their skin is thin, dense, dark red, turning nearly black and acquiring a sheen upon full ripening. The flesh is dark red, juicy, and firm with a cartilaginous texture, possessing a mild wine-sweet flavor and white veins. The stone is small, round, and semi-detached. The juice is also dark red. Based on tasting characteristics, fresh berries receive a high rating—about 4.5–4.6 points. The fruits contain a significant amount of dry matter and sugars, making their flavor rich and pleasant. Variety 'Izyumna' is characterized by high yield, reaching approximately 118.8 centners per hectare, as well as good transportability, making it versatile for various uses. The fruits easily detach from the branches due to dry fruit stem separation, facilitating convenient harvesting, including mechanical harvesting. Due to its characteristics, the variety is suitable for both fresh consumption and processing. High resistance to diseases and cold makes 'Izyumna' a reliable choice for gardeners seeking high-quality and abundant cherry harvests.
