Dream of the Ural

This variety was obtained by crossing the 'Lyubskaya' variety with steppe cherry by amateur gardener M.F. Krivolapov (Shumikha, Kurgan Oblast). Study of the seedling and its transfer to state testing were conducted at the Sverdlovsk Fruit Breeding Station under M.G. Isakova. Originator — Sverdlovsk Fruit Breeding Station. Bush up to 2.5-3 m tall with a wide, round, spreading crown of medium density and foliage. Bark color of the trunk is gray, with a flaking surface. Branches slightly curved, brown, growing upward. Average number of buds. Bud rounded, slightly offset from the branch. Leaf oblong-egg-shaped, green. Apex pointed, base wedge-shaped, doubly serrated. Leaf slightly concave, elastic, glossy surface. Petiole 11 mm long, 1 mm thick, purplish. Stipules medium, yellow. Number of flowers per inflorescence 4-6, up to 9. Corolla diameter 21 mm, open. Petals white, elliptical. Number of stamens 24-28, stigma length 11 mm, stamen length 7 mm. Calyx shape obtuse-wedge. Fruits borne on flower clusters and one-year growth.

Fruits weighing 4 g, round, dark red. Flesh of medium density, dark red, juice red. Pedicel length 27 mm. Stone ovate, mass 0.25 g, which is 6.2% of fruit mass, brown. Fruits have very attractive appearance, rated 5 points. Flesh juicy, pleasantly sweet-tart flavor. Sensory rating of fresh fruits 4.3 points. Dry detachment from pedicel. Variety of universal use. Fruits used fresh and for processing into compote, jam, juice. Sensory rating of processed products 4.5 points. Fruits contain soluble solids — 16%, sugars — 8.8%, acids — 1.7%, vitamin C — 16 mg/100g, vitamin P — 552.3 mg/100g.

Flowering is late — May 25 to June 5. Fruit ripening is late, mid-August, simultaneous. Enters fruiting at 3-4 years. Annual, high fruiting. Good winter hardiness of wood and buds. Flowers resistant to spring frosts due to late flowering, often escaping frost damage. Drought tolerant. Susceptible to coccomycosis and moniliosis. In certain years, damage by cherry aphid and cherry scale may occur.

Suitable for commercial, amateur cultivation, and as a breeding resource. In breeding, valuable traits include winter hardiness, yield, late flowering, self-fertility. Variety has high production rating at the 'Michurinsky' collective farm in Shumikha district, Kurgan Oblast. Suitable for intensive cultivation.
