FAREWELL TARANENKO

Cherry variety Farewell is one of the latest selections from the Artemivsk Experimental Station, developed by breeder L.I. Taranenko through complex crossing of varieties Donchanka, Valeriy Chkalov, and Jerelo. This variety is characterized by early-mid season ripening, which in southern Ukraine occurs in the first half of June, usually from the 5th to the 15th. The tree is medium-sized with a dense, rounded crown, enters fruiting on the 3rd-4th year after planting, demonstrating stable and high yield. To achieve maximum yield, sanitary spring pruning is recommended. Best pollinators for Farewell are Donetska Krasavitsa and Donetsky Ugol'ek.

Farewell cherry fruits are large, averaging 12 to 15 grams, round and slightly flattened on the sides, with a rich dark-red color. The flesh is firm, slightly fibrous, juicy, and possesses high taste qualities with a harmonious balance of sugar and acid, ensuring pleasant dessert consumption. The tasting score of this variety is 4.5 points. Main use is fresh consumption, though they are also suitable for preparing high-quality compotes and other culinary processing, retaining stable color and rich red juice.

The variety is characterized by rapid fruiting, enhanced winter hardiness, and resistance to major cherry diseases, including coccomycosis. It is low-maintenance and relatively resistant to various growing conditions, making it attractive for cultivation in different regions. Due to these qualities, Farewell is a promising variety for gardeners seeking early and high-quality yields of large-fruited cherries.
