The Jamila cherry variety is distinguished by its late ripening period and versatile purpose, making it attractive for various uses. The fruits of this variety are large, weighing up to 9 grams, have a heart-shaped shape, and a dark-red color. The berries have a tart-sweet flavor, confirmed by a high tasting score of 4.5 to 4.8 points. The flesh is red, medium-density, and cartilaginous, with red juice, while the skin is medium-coarse and fits the fruit tightly, ensuring good preservation during transportation.
Jamila is a self-sterile variety, so for successful fruiting, the presence of pollinators is required. Fruit detachment is dry, which makes the variety suitable for mechanized harvesting. The fruit stem is of medium length, the fruits easily detach from the branch, and the pit is medium-sized, elongated, and detaches well from the flesh. The variety is resistant to drought and various diseases, but does not have high frost resistance, which limits its cultivation in colder regions.
This variety is adapted for cultivation in North Ossetia and is traditionally cultivated in warm regions such as the North Caucasus and the Central Chernozem region. Thanks to breeding work aimed at improving winter hardiness, similar cherry varieties are gradually moving north, which expands their cultivation possibilities in more severe climatic conditions.
