Description
Clover Nosovskyi 5 is a perennial variety of red meadow clover, developed by the Chernihiv Regional Agricultural Experimental Station and included in the register since 1971. It belongs to the early-maturing, two-cut type and is intended for cultivation in the Volga region. The plant features a cup-shaped, semi-ramified bush with thin, delicate, and lightly hairy stems of medium height (40–85 cm). The bushiness is strong, leafiness is above average, leaves are large with ovate leaflets, and inflorescences are spherical heads with pale-pink flowers. The growing period of the variety is 55–61 days from the beginning of spring growth to the first cut, and 39–45 days between the first and second cuts. Regrowth after cuts and in spring occurs uniformly, contributing to stable yields. Dry matter yield reaches 7.5–8.3 tons per hectare, and seed yield is about 150 kg/ha. The variety has high winter hardiness (96.2%) and resistance to major diseases: moderately affected by rust and weakly by anthracnose. Clover Nosovskyi 5 is widely used in agriculture as a forage crop due to its high forage quality. Protein content in the plant ranges from 16.5 to 21%, and fiber content from 27.7 to 29.5%, ensuring nutritional value for animals. The variety is recommended for sowing either pure or in mixtures with mint family and other leguminous grasses, at a seeding rate of 14–16 kg/ha with seed depth of 1–3 cm. Harvesting is conducted in the bud or early flowering stage, with green mass yield reaching 600 centners/ha, hay yield 60–100 centners/ha, and seed yield 3 centners/ha and above.
