Description
Orion meadow clover is a diploid, single-cut culture with a very late flowering time. The plants are characterized by a long stem of medium thickness with weak pubescence, as well as leaflets of medium length and width. The inflorescences are spherical heads of a pink color, while the seed skin is multi-colored. The mass of 1000 seeds ranges from 1.7 to 2.0 grams. Plant height reaches 82-86 cm, which promotes good development and yield.
The Orion variety is distinguished by high winter hardiness and resistance to spring frosts, making it a reliable choice for cultivation in various climatic conditions. However, it is susceptible to clover rust and fusarium wilt at a level comparable to standard varieties. Dry matter yield varies by region: in the North-Western region, it reaches 65.2 c/ha, in the Central region — 59.2 c/ha, in the Volga-Vyatka region — 52.8 c/ha, and in the West Siberian region — 34.0 c/ha.
The variety was developed using the method of creating complex hybrid populations and was included in the state register in 2000. It is recommended for cultivation in the North-Western, Central, Volga-Vyatka, and West Siberian regions. Green mass yield is 36.0-40.0 t/ha, dry matter — 7.0-8.0 t/ha, and seeds — 0.3-0.5 t/ha. Due to its characteristics and adaptability, Orion clover is widely used in agriculture to obtain quality feed raw materials.
