Field Experience with «Bourbon» Hybrid

When selecting hybrids, we look for predictability rather than marketing promises. The French-bred «Bourbon» from Mas Seeds (FAO 340) has proven to be a reliable performer for grain production. As a simple hybrid, it behaves consistently, making crop management straightforward for the entire season.

Practical Performance

The grain is a flint-dent type, which ensures solid test weight and decent moisture release at harvest. From an operational standpoint, it is a low-maintenance hybrid. Its root system is sturdy enough to prevent lodging, which simplifies harvesting operations and keeps harvest losses to a minimum.

Disease Resistance

The most significant advantage of this hybrid is its field health. We have observed consistent performance against key pathogens:

• Helminthosporium leaf blight: Even in humid years, the leaves remain functional throughout the grain-filling stage.
• Fusarium ear rot: The hybrid shows excellent resistance, resulting in clean grain and fewer issues during storage.
• Common smut: Low incidence levels, which drastically reduces dockage at the elevator.

For farmers focusing on grain output, «Bourbon» is a practical choice. It offers the stability needed for large-scale operations without the high cost of intensive fungicide protection, effectively balancing productivity with operational ease.
