Description
Why "Midnight" has become a benchmark for our farm
When planning the sweet corn season, we chose "Midnight" by the French company Limagrain. I must note immediately: this is not a hybrid that requires constant fussing. In our climatic conditions, it shows the stability for which farmers truly value European breeding.
In the field and in practice
The first thing that catches your eye is its resistance. Helminthosporiosis, which usually decimates plots with more sensitive hybrids, was not a problem here. We managed to avoid extra fungicide applications, which significantly reduced production costs. The grain forms densely, and the "sweet" type tag is fully justified—the taste is rich and sugary, exactly what the fresh market demands.
Operational features
- Sowing: The hybrid germinates excellently and is not capricious with standard planting dates. The germination energy allows for uniform sprouting even with minor temperature fluctuations.
- Maintenance: The root system is robust, and the plants do not lodge. Harvesting is comfortable, and the ears are uniform, which simplifies packaging and commercial sorting.
- Economics: Due to its high immunity to diseases, we saved on chemicals. Seed consumption is standard, and the yield of marketable product is higher than that of most local counterparts.
If you are looking for predictability, then "Midnight" is the logical choice. We received exactly the product that sells easily because the quality of the ear is visible to the naked eye.
