NS 640

Corn NS 640 is a hybrid developed by the Institute of Vegetable and Field Crops in Novi Sad, Serbia. Since 1997, this hybrid has been included in the State Register of Varieties of Ukraine. Plants reach a height of up to 350 cm with adequate moisture, ensuring high productivity. The hybrid is primarily intended for silage use, but in southern regions, it can also be grown for grain. The FAO of corn NS 640 is 500, and the potential yield of dry grain reaches 130 ц/ha. When producing silage, it is recommended to increase seeding density by 20%, which allows obtaining a yield exceeding 900 ц/ha of silage.

Plants of the hybrid exhibit high resistance to major corn diseases such as helminthosporiosis, fusarium, and smut (Ustilago maydis). The corn stalk is elastic and strong, providing resistance to lodging and damage by stem borers. The ear has a conical-cylindrical shape with 14–16 rows of yellow-orange dent kernels. The ear is notably long and cylindrical, which contributes to high yield.
