A reliable German-bred hybrid with high disease immunity and excellent grain dry-down.
Description
Reliable Yields with ZU Kramber
When planning a season, the last thing you want is the surprise of rust affecting your crops. Choosing a hybrid from Saaten-Union, I focused on German genetics, which historically deliver consistent results. ZU Kramber proved to be a robust performer with excellent disease resistance; during the growing season, signs of rust were practically non-existent, saving me on fungicide costs.
Field Observations
This is a simple hybrid, so it is straightforward to manage. A maturation period of 90-100 days allows us to comfortably wrap up the harvest before the autumn rains set in. The grain is a classic flint-dent type, which dries down well, meaning lower drying costs after harvest. An important point for us is the versatility: we use ZU Kramber for both grain and silage, and in both cases, the crop shows stable green mass and well-filled cobs.
Planting Recommendations
To maximize returns, I stick to a seeding rate of 85-90 thousand plants per hectare. At this density, the crop is well-ventilated, preventing overcrowding, which also serves as a preventive measure against diseases. The stalk remains strong and resistant to lodging, making things much easier for the combine operator. For those who value predictability and want to avoid the "disease lottery," this hybrid is a workhorse that justifies every euro invested in the seed.

Dual-purpose hybrids: for silage and grain in all growing regions. These are "stay-green" type hybrids, meaning the plants remain green for a longer period. However, this does not affect the sugar, cellulose, and hemicellulose content, nor the degree of lignification of the plant... |
