Stable yields: experience with the «Valat» corn variety

When selecting grain corn from a domestic producer, it is crucial to evaluate the hybrid based on its real field performance rather than marketing brochures. This season, «Valat» from RVA Ukraina proved to be a predictable and reliable workhorse. This variety has a maturation period of 120–140 days, making it an optimal choice for farms focused on producing high-quality grain.

Phytosanitary control in the field

One of the main challenges in corn cultivation is pathogen infestation, which can eat into your potential profits before harvest. Working with «Valat», we noted its high resistance to downy mildew (peronospora). This significantly simplifies the protection strategy: there is no need to stay under constant stress due to the threat of sudden disease outbreaks. The crop demonstrates excellent resistance to common threats such as:

• Plant rust;
• Phomopsis;
• Powdery mildew.

Such natural defense reduces expenses on fungicide applications, which directly impacts the production cost per ton of grain.

Grain quality indicators

At the end of the season, we achieved a stable starch content of 54%. For grain production, this is a solid figure that makes the harvest highly sought after by both feed mills and for export markets. The grain fills well, and drying processes proceed without surprises, which is critical for operators handling large volumes post-harvest. «Valat» is a choice for those accustomed to working with Ukrainian selection, which requires straightforward maintenance and provides predictable results in the combine hopper.
