Description
Rubicon is a high-yielding semi-sugar beet variety with cylindrical orange-colored roots and juicy white flesh. The roots are elongated, weighing approximately 3 kg, and have a high content of dry matter (up to 12-14%) and sugar, ensuring excellent feed quality for agricultural animals. The upper part of the root and its crown are partially above ground, facilitating mechanized and manual harvesting. The variety is characterized by high yield and good storability, allowing roots to be stored for an extended period at temperatures from +0.5 to +4 °C until late spring.
Rubicon is resistant to cracking and diseases such as cercospora and yellow virus, and also exhibits high drought and cold tolerance — seedlings can withstand temperatures down to -3 °C. Leaves remain fresh until harvest, further enhancing the plant's feed value. The variety is suitable for cultivation on poor soils and tolerates adverse conditions, making it versatile for various regions.
Due to root depth of approximately 60%, beet harvesting can be performed mechanically after preliminary leaf cutting. Rubicon is one of the most popular varieties for home cultivation for feed purposes. For optimal results, it is recommended to plant beets after cucumbers, early potatoes, or cabbage, under which organic fertilizers were applied.
