Description
Trypilskaya half-sugar fodder beet is a medium-maturing, high-yielding variety with a maturation period of 105 to 160 days, depending on growing conditions. The roots are cylindrical or oval in shape with white or cream-white juicy flesh, characterized by high dry matter content — from 12.5% to 14% — and sugar content, making them valuable animal feed. The upper part of the root and its crown are partially above ground, facilitating mechanized harvesting after preliminary leaf trimming. The variety is resistant to stalk rot, cercospora, yellow virus, and other diseases, and tolerates drought and heat well, allowing cultivation on various soil types, including poor ones. Trypilskaya half-sugar beet is recommended for sowing from early spring, starting from the second decade of April to the first decade of May, at a sowing depth of 2 to 4 cm depending on soil type and row spacing of 45–70 cm. The seeding rate is 18–20 kg per hectare, ensuring optimal plant density — 3–4 plants per linear meter after thinning. To increase yield, potassium-phosphate fertilizers at 300–400 g per 10 m² and regular watering during vegetation are required. The root yield reaches 1000–1250 c/ha, while leaf mass yield is 280–380 c/ha. Trypilskaya half-sugar beet is widely used in agriculture as animal feed. The roots and leaves have high nutritional value, including easily digestible protein and sugar units, which improve livestock rations. Due to its excellent storability, transportability, and disease resistance, this variety is one of the most popular for cultivation both on industrial scales and on private plots. Best preceding crops are cucumbers, early potatoes, and cabbage, which were fertilized with organic matter.
