Leginny

The thornless blackcurrant 'Leginny' is a mid-late variety with large dark-cherry berries weighing up to 7 grams. The berries have a dessert-like flavor with slightly tart-sweet notes, rated 4.5 points, and are covered with a noticeable waxy bloom. The flesh is rich in bioactive substances, including 36 mg% ascorbic acid, making the fruit not only delicious but also nutritious. The berries have a pear-shaped form and are suitable for fresh consumption as well as processing.

The 'Leginny' blackcurrant bushes are compact, medium-sized, with strong shoots and practically thornless, which facilitates harvesting. The plants exhibit high winter hardiness and resistance to powdery mildew, significantly reducing disease risk. The variety is characterized by high yield and self-fertility up to 50%, though yield increases with pollinators. Due to its vigorous growth, dense planting is possible with the recommended spacing of 2.5 x 0.5 meters.

Care for 'Leginny' blackcurrant is simple and includes regular soil loosening, timely watering and feeding, as well as light pruning in spring and autumn. The main harvest forms on last year's and two-year-old shoots, so it is recommended to remove old, dry, damaged, and inward-growing branches. The variety was developed in Ukraine, in the city of Mlyiv, using modern technologies, ensuring its high quality and adaptability to local conditions.
